Duruflé: Requiem
In All Saints' Day concert Pori Sinfonietta and the Pori Philharmonic Choir perform Duruflé’s Requiem. The soloists are Erica Back and Arttu Kataja.
At Pori Sinfonietta’s All Saints' Day concert in the Central Pori Church, the audience will hear the soothing Requiem by the French composer Maurice Duruflé. Duruflé drew inspiration from Gregorian chant, a form of church music characterised by monophonic texture and, originally, unaccompanied singing. These archaic melodies are balanced by sophisticated harmonies. Duruflé composed his Requiem during the Second World War.
The choir in this concert is the Pori Philharmonic Choir, which will perform not only the Requiem but also another French work, Fauré’s Cantique de Jean Racine. The solo parts will be sung by mezzo-soprano Erica Back and baritone Arttu Kataja.
