This celebratory concert is a tribute to Tapani Kansa – an artist who sang his way into the hearts of the Finnish people, and whose music continues to live on.
Come and experience an unforgettable evening honoring Tapani Kansa’s life’s work and beloved songs, bringing to life the unique atmosphere of his concerts.
Tapani Kansa was an exceptionally prolific and versatile artist. He recorded over 600 songs, wrote the lyrics for 80 of them himself, and remained at the top of his field for decades. During his career, he received 14 gold records and one platinum record, as well as a Special Emma Award. His repertoire ranged from schlager to rock and roll, from disco to the poetry of Eino Leino – always delivered with a distinctive style that combined sensitivity and power.
At this tribute concert, Tapani’s greatest hits will be performed by, among others, Teemu Roivainen, Tomi Metsäketo, Lauri Mikkola (known from the TV show Elämäni biisi), Mikael Saari, and Tapani’s brother Seppo Kansa, whose voice bears a striking resemblance to Tapani’s. The concert orchestra is made up of top musicians, many of whom collaborated closely with Tapani Kansa throughout his long and meaningful career.
Tapani Kansa became a beloved national singer at a young age thanks to his exceptional talent and charisma. His studies at the Kotka Music Institute and the Sibelius Academy launched a career that would leave a lasting mark on the history of Finnish music.
In addition to the music, the audience will experience a powerful visual production. The concert features a large screen showcasing numerous photographs and videos from different stages of Tapani Kansa’s career, including rare archival material and memorable performances. The concert has received the support of Tapani’s spouse, Nina af Enehjelm, including access to private photo albums and press clippings for this production.
His breakthrough as a singer came at the age of 19, when his Finnish version of Delilah reached number one on the charts – even though it was originally released as the B-side of a single. That same year also saw the release of his legendary chart-toppers Kuljen taas kotiinpäin and Käymme yhdessä ain, songs that have remained in the hearts of Finns for generations.
The concert will feature these unforgettable songs as well as many other enduring hits: R-A-K-A-S, Hafanana, Kalajoen hiekat, and timeless tangos such as Hopeinen kuu, along with passionately interpreted Argentine tangos that Tapani performed with unique intensity.
